Kimolos investigation into teenager's electrocution

An autopsy conducted in Piraeus confirmed the cause of death was an electric shock. The incident occurred in an outdoor bathroom of a stone house that the family had visited many times before. During the emergency response, a local doctor, Agapitos Xanthis, reported that the boy’s mother also experienced electric shocks from the premises while attempting to assist him. Local medical professionals noted that the situation could have resulted in multiple fatalities.

The investigation is centered on the property’s electrical installation, which has not been modernized since the 1970s. A primary concern is whether the electrical panel contained a residual current device (RCD) to prevent such accidents. The house remains sealed as a crime scene while technical experts and forensic pathologists focus on the water heater and the electrical wiring.

Questions have been raised regarding the certification of the electrical system. Allegations have surfaced involving the current Mayor of Kimolos, Konstantinos Ventouris, who is an electrician. It has been reported that the mayor signed a certificate of electrical compliance for the property in 2024. The victim’s family lawyer, Stelios Voudouris, suggested that the mayor may have been involved in installing the panel or certifying the system and indicated that the family is considering legal action, suggesting the mayor may face criminal responsibility. The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family.
