KM Virgo Transport 8 shipwreck compensation

Overview

Following the KM Virgo Transport 8 shipwreck, PT Jasa Raharja and Jasa Raharja Putera have been distributing compensation and medical coverage to victims and their families.

Initially, Jasa Raharja distributed Rp 1.27 billion, providing Rp 850 million to 17 legal heirs of deceased victims and allocating up to Rp 420 million for the medical treatment of 21 injured individuals. At that stage, the death toll was reported at 53, with 161 of the 243 people involved having been evacuated.

By late September, the total compensation distributed increased to Rp 3.028 billion, with payments made to 46 individuals. Each identified deceased victim’s heir receives Rp 70 million, split between Jasa Raharja and Jasa Raharja Putera. Updated figures from Basarnas indicate the fatality count has risen to 78, with 108 survivors and 57 individuals still missing. Authorities are continuing to work with DVI teams to identify remaining victims to facilitate further compensation processing.
