Kocaeli municipal infrastructure upgrades

In early July, Kocaeli's Metropolitan Municipality completed a heavy‑vehicle corridor in İzmit, reinforcing Nizamoğlu İsmail Caddesi and repainting nine kilometres of markings. Later that month the city launched a summer maintenance programme, cleaning 269 signalised intersections to keep traffic lights functional as vehicle numbers rose.

On 25 July the General Directorate of Highways announced temporary closures on the TEM motorway (km 0‑13), the North Marmara Motorway at Akyazı and parts of the İzmir Ring Road for surface‑renewal and bridge‑repair work. Kocaeli’s signal‑maintenance continued alongside these national works, and Bursa’s public‑transport subsidiary BURULAŞ overhauled dozens of bus engines, gearboxes and brakes, saving the city more than 24 million TL in external procurement costs.

From 31 July until 10 August, Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi closed both directions of the Santral Ramp in İzmit to reconstruct the upper structure, and replaced ten defective LED fixtures on three city overpasses. In Sakarya, Mayor Yusuf Alemdar inspected progress on the new 4th Cadde corridor – a 1.2‑km, 20‑metre‑wide double‑carriageway with a 40‑metre underground passage expected to cut travel time by about ten minutes. Bursa Büyükşehir Belediyesi completed a widening of Kaldırım Caddesi in the Kurşunlu neighbourhood of Gemlik, expanding the road from 8 to 15 metres and applying a double‑layer pavement.

These coordinated municipal projects across Kocaeli, Sakarya and Bursa illustrate a broader regional push to modernise road capacity, ease congestion, and enhance safety during the summer peak season.
