Kochia plant seasonal displays in Japan

Overview

Seasonal Kochia plant displays are attracting attention across various Japanese locations as they transition into autumn colors. In Niigata Prefecture, the ‘Kochia no Sato’ in Murakami City has gained social media popularity, featuring approximately 250 plants that have turned bright red and been decorated with eyes by the Iwafune Hanabatake Project.

In Osaka, the Expo ’70 Commemorative Park is showcasing vibrant red Kochia alongside pink Muhlenbergia capillaris and various cosmos species. Meanwhile, at Hitachi Seaside Park, approximately 40,000 Kochia plants at the ‘Miharashi no Oka’ hill have reached their peak coloring, displaying a gradient of deep red and amber hues. Following the autumn display, some plants are dried for winter ground art installations before being removed in early November to prepare for Nemophila planting.
