Kosovo construction safety incident
Overview
A crane collapse at a construction site on Holger Petersen Road in Pristina killed a worker and injured another, prompting an investigation by Kosovo police, the state prosecutor and labour inspectors. Local officials, including Mayor Perparim Rama, called for stricter safety enforcement.
Two days later, Acting Labour Minister Andi Hoti confirmed the ongoing investigations and announced that, from 1 September, the Central Labour Inspectorate will carry out fully digital workplace inspections. The new system will employ laptops, mobile devices and, for the first time, drones to monitor construction sites in real time, aiming to improve transparency and prevent similar accidents.
