Kosovo-EFTA Free Trade Agreement
Overview
The Free Trade Agreement between Kosovo and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states—Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway—has officially entered into force.
This activation fulfills the agreement’s goal of deepening economic ties and facilitating trade. Under the pact, industrial products from Kosovo gain duty-free access to EFTA markets, which represent a consumer base of approximately 30 million people. While imports from EFTA states will be liberalized gradually to accommodate economic differences, Kosovo remains the only country in its region to have negotiated trade in services as part of its EFTA agreement.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship Mimoza Kusari-Lila previously noted that the deal provides Kosovo with a competitive advantage in the region by increasing legal certainty and removing certain Swiss customs tariffs following transitional periods.
