Kosovo violent crime and firearm incidents

In early August 2026, Kosovo police responded to several family‑related firearm incidents. On 2 August, 77‑year‑old D. K. shot his 40‑year‑old son, V. K., in the village of Savrovë near Suharekë during a dispute. Police seized a 9 mm pistol and arrested D. K., who faces charges of aggravated assault and illegal weapon possession; the victim was transferred to Prizren General Hospital. Later that day in Vushtrri, 36‑year‑old Demokrat Ademi was investigated after firing a gas‑pistol into the air during a family gathering in Smrekonicë. Ademi was released pending further investigation.

On 5 August, authorities in Gjakova investigated a violent knife robbery involving suspect S. M., who was apprehended after threatening a shop‑resident.

By mid-August, a new wave of unauthorized weapon use occurred during family celebrations. In Podujeva, police arrested one individual in Bajram Metolli for firing a licensed TT‑type pistol and another in Obrançë for allegedly firing an AK‑47 automatic rifle; both were released following prosecutor decisions. In Mitrovica, a suspect was detained after police seized an AK‑47 used in an unauthorized manner. Additional seizures included a licensed weapon in Peja and a weapon used in a threat in Vushtrri, which resulted in an arrest and detention.
