Krakow contract audits and planning controversy

In late July 2026 Kraków’s municipal authorities intensified scrutiny of contracts awarded to construction firm MAIS GROUP. On 27 July, the city’s Sports Infrastructure Directorate completed an audit that questioned the justification for external communication and legal‑service contracts, the procurement process, and the lack of clear selection criteria. Auditors highlighted possible deviations from competitive tendering rules and insufficient documentation of work acceptance.

Three days later, on 30 July, the city conducted two additional audits covering the Sports Infrastructure Directorate, the Kraków Municipal Holding, and the Kraków New Huta Future company. These reviews examined the purpose, procurement procedures, execution, and settlement of the MAIS GROUP agreements, noting variations in the depth and tone of the assessments, with the Sports Infrastructure Directorate providing the most detailed recommendations.

Simultaneously, three opposition councillors lodged a criminal complaint alleging procedural irregularities in the drafting of Kraków’s General Plan and Development Strategy, claiming hidden meetings with investors and alterations that favored developers. The complaint underscored broader concerns about transparency and governance in the city’s planning and procurement processes.
