Krakow urban transport and parking management

Krakow has implemented several urban mobility and transport management initiatives. By mid-2026, the municipal administration reported that expenditures for establishing and operating the city's Clean Transport Zone reached over 5.1 million zł. These costs covered administration, IT systems, signage, vehicle controls, and staff salaries, as well as informational and promotional campaigns.

Following these developments, the city expanded its Paid Parking Zone (OPP) in August 2026. Effective August 10, the Zarząd Dróg Miasta Krakowa (ZDMK) expanded the zone to include parts of subzones B30 and C. The new areas cover the vicinity of the Podgórski Cemetery, the Rondo Matecznego area, and locations near Błonia, including 3 Maja street and the AGH University Student Town. This expansion was implemented to address parking availability and respond to requests from residents and local councilors.

Parking rates within these zones vary based on the specific subzone and whether a driver holds a Krakow Card. While subzone A (the city center) operates daily, subzones B and C operate Monday through Saturday from 9:00 to 22:00. In subzone A, rates for residents with a card start at 6 PLN for the first hour, while non-residents pay 9 PLN. In subzone C, residents pay a flat rate of 4 PLN per hour, whereas non-residents pay between 7 and 9 PLN depending on the hour.

In addition to parking changes, road maintenance and infrastructure projects have caused traffic disruptions. While localized sewer manhole adjustments on Al. Racławickich caused minor issues, major roadwork on the 29 Listopada Avenue viaduct is expected to result in lane reductions and traffic delays through late August 2026. Furthermore, public transport schedules are set to adjust for the upcoming holidays on August 15.
