KTMB railway service disruptions in Malaysia

Overview

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has faced operational challenges in Malaysia involving station access and service delays.

On September 25, the operator apologized after passengers at Anak Bukit Station were forced to climb fences to enter the premises because gates remained locked during the early morning. KTMB attributed this to an “unavoidable emergency involving the staff members scheduled to be on duty.”

On September 27, a more significant disruption occurred due to a signalling system failure between Kalumpang and Kuala Kubu Bharu. A damaged system component that sparked during double-tracking upgrading works caused delays of up to five hours for KTM Komuter and ETS services. KTMB provided food, beverages, and SMS notifications to stranded passengers, and stated that full fare refunds would be offered to those who did not continue their journeys.
