Kudakwashe Tagwirei Senate appointment

Overview

Following the enactment of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3, which expanded the Zimbabwean Senate from 80 to 90 members, President Emmerson Mnangagwa nominated businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei and nine others for appointment. Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda stated the nominees were recommended for their professional skills and competencies.

Tagwirei, the founder of Sakunda Holdings and a member of the Zanu-PF Central Committee, is a prominent figure whose nomination drew attention due to his business interests and previous sanctions by the United States.

Tagwirei has since been sworn in as a senator at Parliament in Mt Hampden. He stated his intention to use his private sector experience to support the nation’s ‘Vision 2030 agenda’ and contribute to debates regarding economic growth and the business operating environment.
