Kurume Machitabi tourism expo

Overview

Kurume City is preparing for its 20th annual ‘Machitabi’ tourism expo, scheduled to run from October to December 2026. The community-driven initiative features experiential travel programs developed by local residents, focusing on regional resources such as nature, agriculture, traditional crafts, and food culture.

The upcoming programs are organized into four themes: ‘Mastery and Industry’, ‘Beauty and History Exploration’, ‘Adventure Trips’, and ‘Culinary Charms’. Specific activities include indigo dyeing, Kurume Kasuri weaving, sake brewery tours, and Wagyu beef tastings. To promote the event, a ‘Machitabi Festa’ was scheduled for early September to provide early access to guidebooks and hands-on experiences.

In addition to the tourism expo, the Kurume City Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition titled ‘The Design Journey of Shuya Kahoku’, showcasing the work of the Kurume-born art director.
