Kuwait-Iran regional tensions

Overview

Kuwait has issued a strong condemnation of Iranian missile and drone attacks that have targeted Kuwaiti territory since February 28, 2026. These strikes reportedly hit civilian infrastructure, including Kuwait International Airport and the headquarters of the Public Institution for Social Security.

During discussions at the United Nations General Assembly, Kuwaiti representatives characterized these actions as “flagrant violations of its sovereignty and a direct threat to civilian safety.” Kuwait has called for Iran to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026) and emphasized the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with the United Nations Charter.
