La Réunion economic development initiatives
Overview
La Réunion is implementing various strategies to enhance its economic attractiveness and regional influence within the Indian Ocean. The Regional Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESER) proposed a two-tier strategy to leverage the island’s legal stability and research ecosystem, while the Regional Council introduced a roadmap for a ‘New Economy’ to attract investment and technology across 11 key sectors.
To support these goals, the Regional Permanent Commission approved funding for the ‘LéspassClés’ program to assist 14 communes between 2026 and 2028.
Development efforts have expanded to include corporate partnerships, such as Epitech La Réunion’s network of 17 organizations providing internships and scholarships. Furthermore, the Région Réunion held its first regional economic convention, noting that 115 million euros have been mobilized through various support programs since 2021. These initiatives serve as a foundation for the ‘Acte II de La Nouvelle Économie’ policy, which is planned for the 2026-2030 period with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises.
