Labor instability and precarious employment have become central issues in Naples, affecting both the private tourism sector and municipal public services.

In August, the Comitato Tassisti di Base criticized the Naples municipal administration, dismissing claims of a successful tourist season as ‘political propaganda.’ The committee reported low demand for taxi services and noted that city construction projects were hindering mobility. This local tension mirrored broader national trends in Italy, where seasonal employment is characterized by high rates of temporary or on-call contracts and significant risks of poverty.

By September, labor unrest shifted toward municipal services. Workers associated with Napoli Servizi, a company controlled by the Municipality of Naples, organized protests against the use of temporary staffing agencies and part-time contracts for essential tasks such as cleaning and maintenance. Unions FLAICA-CUB and SGB demanded the internalization of staff, the conversion of part-time roles to full-time positions, and the implementation of the Campania Region’s minimum wage.
