Land governance and conflict prevention in Diffa

Overview

In the Diffa region of Niger, authorities have initiated efforts to address land governance and resource management to prevent conflict. An initial regional workshop was held to strengthen stakeholder skills regarding the Rural Code and institutional mechanisms for managing natural resources, specifically focusing on land access, pastoral mobility, and transhumance corridors.

Following this, regional dialogue initiatives were launched to further mitigate tensions. Governor Mahamadou Ibrahim Bagadoma noted that land governance and natural resource management are major challenges affecting 11 of the region's 12 communes. These discussions, organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, aim to protect social cohesion and regional security by addressing disputes over pastoral resources and land access.
