Land management violations in Quang Tri

Land management and allocation issues have surfaced in Quang Tri Province, involving both long-standing disputes with residents and broader administrative violations.

In Nam Ly Ward and Tuyen Hoa District, residents have faced unresolved disputes for over 30 years after paying various fees, such as ‘construction fees’ and ‘land leveling compensation,’ between 1995 and 1996. A provincial inspection confirmed that local authorities collected funds from households without the legal authority to allocate land or an approved planning scheme. While some reimbursements have occurred, many families remain without their land or final settlements.

Separately, the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam identified widespread mismanagement of public land and housing across 25 facilities in the province. Findings include 13 sites remaining vacant for over a year, the unauthorized use of facilities for business purposes, and the assignment of land to agencies without actual need. The inspectorate noted that ineffective rearrangement plans and incomplete site clearances have led to the waste of state resources.
