Landslides and flooding in East Java

Overview

Heavy rainfall in East Java triggered fatal landslides and flooding in late October and early November 2026. In Lumajang Regency, a landslide in Tamanayu Village killed a 40-year-old man and his 9-year-old daughter after their home was buried under debris during the early morning hours.

Following these events, government officials and the Ministry of Social Affairs initiated relief efforts. In Lumajang, the provincial government provided financial compensation and construction materials to the families of the deceased to assist with home renovations.

Simultaneously, heavy rains caused the Kali Tengah river to overflow in Trenggalek, leading to landslides across five villages in the Munjungan District. While 38 houses sustained damage in Trenggalek, no casualties or injuries were reported in that area. The Ministry of Social Affairs has been coordinating with local governments to distribute logistical aid to the affected populations.
