Larissa school resource and hygiene shortages

Overview

Parents and guardians in Larissa, Greece, have raised formal concerns regarding resource shortages and inadequate maintenance at local educational institutions.

In October, the Parents and Guardians Association of the 9th Primary School protested a lack of basic hygiene supplies, such as toilet paper, and insufficient cleaning staff to maintain the facility for its 440 students and 50 teachers. The association called for the Municipality of Larissa to provide permanent personnel and steady supplies.

By November, similar demands were issued by the Parents and Guardians Association of the Larissa Music School. This group requested intervention from the Directorate of Secondary Education, the Municipality of Larissa, and the Thessaly Region to address educational gaps, including over 100 missing hours of music lessons. Additional concerns included a non-functional library, a lack of promised musical instruments, and long-standing issues with student catering, electrical installations, and the replacement of prefabricated classrooms.
