Overview

The July 2026 crackdown continued with Operation Rastrillo targeting the criminal network linked to the 18 July multihomicide that killed ten local businessmen. Authorities carried out 17 raids across the Sierra de Chalchihuites, Sombrerete and nearby municipalities, including 12 in security‑guarded homes. The operation resulted in the detention of 14 individuals, seven of whom are classified as high‑relevance suspects (three from Durango, three from Sinaloa and one from Zacatecas). An armed civilian was killed during the raids.

Seized items comprised long and short firearms, ammunition, a tactical vest, an explosive device, methamphetamine doses, money‑counting equipment and several vehicles. Investigators intercepted more than 20 telephone lines and produced over 105 forensic reports. Eight of the homicide victims had been lured to meetings under false pretences.

The effort was coordinated by the Zacatecas state government in partnership with the Coca, Bravo and Alpha groups, three helicopters, the Mexican Army and the National Guard. On 30 July, state officials publicly confirmed the operation’s outcomes, reaffirming the 14 arrests, the civilian death, and the extensive cache of weapons, explosives, drugs and cash‑handling equipment, underscoring a sustained, multilateral push to dismantle the organized‑crime network and curb drug trafficking and gender‑based violence in the region.

The Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ) repelled three armed attacks during the operation. The multihomicide on 18 July left ten victims, five of whom were found hanged from a bridge in the municipalities of Pánuco, Morelos and Saín Alto.
