Latin American water infrastructure upgrades

In early August 2026, governments in the region announced several water‑supply improvement projects. Bolivia’s Potosí department transferred 220 pipe units to the Autonomous Administration for Sanitary Works, investing nearly one million bolivianos to replace aging lines that feed the Lacachaca lagoon and are expected to boost water capture to 60 litres per second for thousands of families. At the same time, Mexico’s Los Filtros water‑treatment plant in the San Luis Potosí metropolitan area reached 48 percent completion of its rehabilitation, with new flocculation and sedimentation tanks being installed to restore reliable potable water delivery.

Two days later, the municipal government of Córdoba, Veracruz, and the utility Hidrosistema de Córdoba inaugurated a 1,480‑metre high‑density polyethylene pipe network linking the community of San José de Tapia to the main supply, expanding access for residents previously dependent on a failing well. The expansion coincided with criticism over a persistent leak near a primary school and a 4.53 % tariff increase implemented on 1 August, which officials said was needed to cover rising operating costs despite ongoing complaints of irregular supply and aging infrastructure.
