Launch of Economic Freedom Fighters in The Gambia

Overview

Prince Ebrahim Sanyang has launched the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), a new political movement in The Gambia. The movement’s initial platform focuses on addressing poverty, unemployment, and the cost of living through proposals such as free education, free healthcare, and monthly payments of D1,500 for citizens aged 60 and older.

To combat food insecurity, the EFF plans to establish subsidized ‘Freedom Stores’ and a National Food Buffer Stock Company, alongside agricultural support through a ‘1 Village 1 Cooperative’ program.

As the movement’s agenda expanded, Sanyang detailed further governance and security reforms. These include a ‘1 Village, 1 Clinic’ initiative to improve rural medical access and the decentralization of emergency services through ‘One District, One Fire and Rescue’ and ‘One Community, One Police Station’ programs. Additionally, the EFF-Gambia has committed to anti-corruption measures, including real-time budget monitoring and the public disclosure of government contracts.
