Launch of VLOZ ride-hailing platform in Portugal

Overview

VLOZ, a new Portuguese ride-hailing platform developed by The Drop Company, has launched services in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon, Porto, and Setúbal. Founded by Luís Pinto, the service aims to compete with established providers like Uber and Bolt.

The platform distinguishes itself by allowing passengers to manually select specific drivers and vehicles from available options rather than relying on automatic algorithmic assignments. Users can filter drivers by language, vehicle model, and rating, or save favorite drivers for future use.

To ensure compliance, the platform was developed in coordination with the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) to validate documentation for all drivers and vehicles. For drivers, VLOZ implements a fixed 20% commission and compensates them for the distance traveled to a passenger’s pickup location, a feature noted as being different from many existing industry standards.
