Law enforcement and border operations in Germany and Switerz

Overview

Law enforcement operations in Germany and Switzerland have focused on border security and criminal investigations. In late August, German and Swiss authorities conducted joint border and traffic controls. German police executed arrest warrants on the A 6 motorway, resulting in two arrests and approximately 2,780 euros in fines. Simultaneously, Swiss authorities in the Bern region inspected hundreds of individuals and vehicles, identifying 58 customs violations involving undeclared goods such as tobacco and spirits, as well as arrests for unlawful residence and drug offenses.

Following these operations, Swiss police in the canton of Uri arrested three Georgian nationals in connection with a theft at a Gotthard rest area. The suspects were identified via video footage after a backpack was stolen from a vehicle. The suspects were intercepted at the border in Chiasso and subsequently released while the investigation continues under the direction of the Uri public prosecutor’s office.
