Lazio regional administrative and asset management updates
Overview
Administrative developments in the Lazio region have focused on enhancing local governance and asset management. Roma Capitale entered into a memorandum of understanding with Anci Lazio to improve the city’s capacity to access European, national, and local funding. This partnership aims to strengthen Rome’s role in European development policies through technical assistance and specialized training for officials, specifically targeting urban regeneration, sustainable mobility, and digital transitions.
To facilitate this, a Coordination Table for European Policies will be established to define project priorities and monitor results. The agreement, which carries no direct financial burden for the administration, is set to remain in effect until December 31, 2027. The initiative also seeks to position Rome more effectively within European decision-making processes, particularly regarding the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework.
In a separate regional development move, the Lazio Region and the Municipality of Fiumicino have signed an agreement to transfer the management of approximately 150 real estate assets and public areas to the local municipality. These assets, which include roads, green spaces, school facilities, parking lots, agricultural land, and sports facilities, are being transferred to resolve ownership fragmentation and facilitate urban redevelopment.
Regional Councilor Fabrizio Ghera and Fiumicino Mayor Mario Baccini presented the agreement, emphasizing its role in restoring the “historical and identity-driven value of the territory to the citizens.” The plan includes a 780,000 euro allocation for technical and administrative activities to complete the assignment and valorization of these spaces within five years. Priority areas include public roads and specific sites such as the Borgo dei Bonificatori in Isola Sacra and municipal offices in Borgo Palidoro.
