Lazio faces injury crisis, financial scrutiny and squad news

Overview

Lazio continues to manage squad availability issues as they prepare to host Monza in a Serie A fixture at the Olimpico stadium. While the team is grappling with an injury crisis that includes players like Gudmundsson and Cancellieri, recent updates indicate that Marusic and Cataldi also remain unavailable for the upcoming match.

Ahead of the fixture, manager Gennaro Gattuso addressed the exclusion of Luca Pellegrini from the Serie A squad list, describing the situation as a “corporate matter.” While Gattuso noted that the club is aware of Pellegrini’s stance, he emphasized that the player remains a professional who continues to train with the team. Gattuso also discussed midfielder Davide Frattesi and noted that the squad is ready following the international break.

Winger Gustav Isaksen has expressed ambitions to score in the upcoming Derby della Capitale against Roma, noting the aggressive mentality instilled by Gattuso. For the match against Monza, Lazio is expected to utilize a 4-3-3 formation, potentially featuring a midfield of Frattesi, Belahyane, and Taylor, with an attacking trio of Isaksen, Noslin, and Zaccagni.

Beyond squad availability, the club faces financial scrutiny. Accounting data as of September 30 suggests Lazio may encounter transfer market restrictions. Depending on the labor cost-to-revenue ratio, the club could face a “saldo zero” (zero balance) restriction for the next two transfer windows or a total block on new signings in January, unless corrective measures such as recapitalization are implemented.

Lazio currently occupies third place with 13 points from five matches, while Monza sits in 16th place with four points.
