Leadership changes in Cameroon's MRC party

Overview

The Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) has undergone significant leadership changes and shifts in membership. In early September 2026, founder Maurice Kamto resigned as party president, stating the decision was made in the “superior interest” of the party and its members. Following this, first vice-president Mamadou Mota also resigned, citing “constant harassment” by the Cameroonian administration as a means to prevent the government from applying pressure through his position. Tiriane Noah assumed leadership of the party following these departures.

Later in the month, the party saw new political engagement with the official joining of Jean Marie Tchakui Noundie, a former prefect and high-ranking state official. Tchakui, who had been active within the formation since 2023, stated that his retirement in 2022 freed him from the duty of reserve, allowing him to contribute his experience to the opposition party.
