Lebanese security operations against illegal bird hunting

Overview

Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) have conducted a series of large-scale operations to combat illegal hunting and protect migratory birds from biodiversity threats.

In late September, the Bekaa Investigation Unit carried out raids across the Bekaa region, including the mountains of Arsal and the plains of Labweh, Ras Baalbek, and other areas. These operations resulted in the seizure of more than 20,640 square meters of illegal hunting nets that obstruct migration paths. Several individuals were identified for legal proceedings.

In October, the ISF expanded its efforts to the Akkar Plain. Working with the Anti-Poaching Unit (APU), the MECSHAP center, and the international organization CABS, patrols targeted agricultural projects to seize equipment used for trapping birds. This raid yielded approximately 25,000 square meters of nets, along with hunting machines and electrical equipment. Following these combined efforts in the Bekaa and North regions, authorities reported that the total amount of illegal nets removed has reached approximately 63,000 square meters.
