Led Zeppelin rare single appearance on Antiques Roadshow

Overview

A rare, unreleased seven-inch single of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ appeared on the BBC programme ‘Antiques Roadshow’ during filming at Caerphilly Castle in Wales.

The record is considered an anomaly because the band’s management, led by Peter Grant, had previously ordered the destruction of the approximately 500 copies pressed by Atlantic Records. Led Zeppelin maintained a strict policy of releasing music exclusively in album formats rather than singles. Expert Marc Allum noted that because the single was officially released in the United States, a copy ‘should not even exist’ in the United Kingdom.

The owner has held the record since the early 1970s, having acquired it in a shop. Despite minor scratches and fingerprints, the item is estimated to be worth approximately £1,000 at auction.
