Lefkada smart lighting and infrastructure upgrades

In late July 2026 the Regional Unit of Lefkada completed a major phase of installing autonomous, smart LED‑controlled streetlights on key provincial roads, improving visibility, road safety and delivering energy savings through photovoltaic technology. Work was slated to continue to extend the system to southern parts of the island, and a meeting with the Lefkada Studies Company highlighted parallel efforts to safeguard the island’s cultural heritage.

By early August 2026, Greek Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food and Lefkada MP Thanasis Kavvadias announced €7 million of EU Recovery and Resilience Fund financing for further infrastructure projects on the island. The funding covers a comprehensive smart LED lighting network for the provincial road system—1,137 photovoltaic‑equipped poles—and six smart pedestrian crossings near schools, aimed at enhancing safety for students. The projects are overseen by the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Ministry of Digital Governance, extending the earlier lighting upgrades with additional safety and digital infrastructure components.
