Liberec school relocation and safety crisis

Overview

The Kaplického Primary School in Liberec underwent a sudden relocation crisis when a temporary facility provided by the Technical University of Liberec was deemed unfit for use. Fire safety authorities determined that the provisional building in Mařanova Street failed to meet necessary standards regarding emergency exit capacities, preventing the school from obtaining required operating permits.

As a result, staff were forced to perform an emergency relocation to move equipment back to the original school building to ensure classes could begin on September 1. Following this failed attempt, the Liberec City Council approved a 700,000 CZK contribution to cover the extraordinary expenses of the double move. The city is now considering negotiating with the university to purchase the Mařanova building to address ongoing space shortages, while the school director continues to request temporary facilities due to the ongoing reconstruction of the permanent school building.
