Supporters noted that local polling, such as the Lie-Barometer, indicated over 70 percent support for a term-based solution, and emphasized that the measure aligns with international human rights obligations, specifically the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

The law faces a likely defeat via executive veto. Hereditary Prince Alois, who has acted as head of state since 2004, has announced his intention to veto the legislation, citing a “central legal interest in the protection of life.” In response to the parliamentary decision, the initiative committee has invited political party leaders, members of Parliament, and the Prince to discussions to seek a path toward implementation. If the Prince does not sign the law by the expected deadline in March 2027, the legislation will be considered rejected.

Opposition to the measure has been voiced by the local Church, which emphasized the “dignity of the unborn” and the necessity for societal support for families.
