Literary and cultural events in Brazil and Portugal

Various literary and cultural events continue across Brazil and Portugal.

In Brazil, recent activities include the launch of João Câmara’s first novel, ‘Rondó da Lagoa dos Irerês’, at Shopping Recife. In Brasília, the Sarau Cultura Alternativa 2026 continued with discussions featuring journalist and writer Arisson Tavares alongside Anand Rao. Rio de Janeiro hosted a conversation between artist Daisy Xavier and critic Fred Coelho at Multiplo Galeria regarding the ‘Anfi’ exhibition, which explores themes of identity and boundaries.

Photography exhibitions remain prominent. In Sorocaba, the ‘Olhares’ exhibition at Pátio Cianê Shopping, curated by Fábio Rogério, features 28 photographs by students of a free photography course to honor Photojournalist Day; the display runs through September 30. In Manacapuru, the ‘Retratos da Terra’ exhibition continues to showcase documentary photography from 22 adolescents exploring regional landscapes. Other notable displays include the ‘Conservatório Municipal de Artes’ 65th-anniversary exhibition in Guarulhos and the ‘Fragmentos e Cicatrizes da Arquitetura Urbana’ show at Galeria de Vidro.

Other regional highlights include the 25th anniversary of the Vaca Amarela Festival in Goiânia, featuring rock, rap, and ballroom performances at the Centro Cultural Martim Cererê. In Senador Canedo, Ivanor Florêncio hosted an event combining literature and theater, while the BenficArte Gallery in Shopping Benfica is hosting three simultaneous exhibitions focused on Ceará’s culture and identity.

In Portugal, the University of Porto’s Casa dos Livros continues to host the bibliographic exhibition ‘Verba Volant, Scripta Manent’, showcasing printed books from the 16th to the 20th centuries.
