Overview

On September 17, residents in Łódź and surrounding areas, such as Zgierz, reported hearing two massive, consecutive bangs that sounded like explosions and caused buildings to shake. At that time, the State Fire Service noted that while authorities heard the noise, there were no specific reports confirming an explosion and no military flight activity was noted in the area.

By September 23, similar loud, consecutive booms were reported across the Łódź region, including Bełchatów and Piotrków County, causing window panes to shake. The Operational Command of the Armed Forces clarified that these sounds were linked to military aviation operations in Polish airspace. These operations were described as preventive measures and precautionary actions taken in response to Russian Federation strikes on Ukrainian territory, intended to secure and protect Polish airspace through the deployment of air defense and radar reconnaissance systems.
