Luminor bank digital services and security updates
Overview
Luminor bank has addressed both technical service disruptions and evolving security threats facing its digital customers.
In mid-September, the bank reported technical difficulties affecting its mobile application and online banking systems. While retail card payments remained functional, instant payments were downgraded to standard SEPA transfers, causing slower processing times.
By October, the bank shifted focus toward fraud prevention by expanding its ‘Saugu+’ service. This expansion includes adding cyber incident insurance to help private clients manage risks such as identity theft and cyberbullying. Mindaugas Kutkaitis, head of fraud prevention at Luminor, noted that scammers often exploit emotional pressure and urgency rather than technical vulnerabilities to target users.
In October 2026, Luminor experts provided further guidance to combat rising digital fraud. Marija Celma, a fraud prevention expert at the bank, advised companies to maintain consistent communication styles to help clients distinguish authentic messages from scams. She recommended that businesses avoid sending login links via SMS or email, suggesting instead that clients use official apps or visit official websites directly. To prevent impersonation, she noted that businesses should maintain a professional tone and avoid creating artificial urgency.
Additionally, the bank offered financial planning advice regarding mortgages. Laura Žukovė, head of financing at Luminor, emphasized the necessity of financial transparency between partners before applying for loans, recommending that couples assess shared financial situations and ensure a reserve remains available after a down payment to cover unexpected expenses.
