Luzon Economic Corridor development

Overview

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has initiated efforts to secure international partnerships and private-sector investment for the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC). During an investment forum in Taguig City, the President emphasized transitioning from verbal commitments to funded, operational projects to create jobs and economic opportunities across key hubs, including Metro Manila, Clark, Subic Bay, and Batangas.

The LEC coalition has since expanded to include 13 partners following the addition of Spain and the European Union. Originally involving the Philippines, the United States, and Japan, the group now includes Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, and the EU.

The European Union is aligning its €60-million Green Economy Programme and €20-million Digital Economy Package with LEC priorities, focusing on renewable energy and digital connectivity. Additionally, Spain intends to provide expertise in sectors such as shipbuilding, aviation, railways, and modular infrastructure to strengthen supply chains and strategic infrastructure investments.
