Madrid municipal and regional mental health initiatives

In Madrid, municipal officials have highlighted the success of various mental health and psychological well-being initiatives. Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz reported that last year, the city’s mental health promotion program assisted approximately 11,000 people, while a program for complicated grief reached 13,000 residents. Furthermore, the city’s suicide prevention website recorded more than 33,600 visits over the previous year.

Public health efforts in Madrid are reportedly shifting toward providing individual and collective resources for physical, psychological, and emotional health, moving beyond a sole focus on curing disease. Recent developments from Madrid Salud include the establishment of a subsidy line for non-profit suicide prevention projects and the creation of a group dedicated to managing perinatal grief.

Expanding on these efforts, the regional government in the Community of Madrid has authorized nearly 700,000 euros to enhance psychological support services specifically for youth aged 14 to 30. This specialized service operates 365 days a year and aims to prevent more serious mental health issues by addressing common concerns such as anxiety, sadness, and low self-esteem.
