Malaysia drug enforcement crackdown
Overview
In late July 2026, Malaysian authorities intensified their fight against illicit drugs. Police and local villagers recaptured four inmates who had escaped from a drug‑rehabilitation centre in Perak, while the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) dismantled three vape‑drug syndicates in the Klang Valley, seizing assets worth more than RM45.6 million after a school‑related incident involving synthetic‑drug‑laden vape devices.
On August 7, JSJN officers raided a house in Kampung Teluk Saga, Perak, seizing heroin, methamphetamine, 170 Erimin 5 pills, and 41 ketamine‑laden vape cartridges. The total street value of the contraband was reported as “RM29,991.50”. A 34‑year‑old male suspect with 12 prior drug‑related convictions was remanded for seven days.
Following this, on August 9, police conducted a raid on a condominium in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur, seizing approximately 79.95 kg of methamphetamine and 28.69 kg of ecstasy pills, valued at roughly RM8.3 million. A 36‑year‑old foreign national, believed to be a Vietnamese national holding a Canadian passport, was arrested. Authorities suspect the premises functioned as a storage and distribution hub since the start of the year. A vehicle valued at RM85,000 was also confiscated. These operations reflect a continued, coordinated effort by Malaysian law‑enforcement agencies to target both large‑scale drug trafficking networks and individual dealers across the country.
