Malaysia halal trade promotion
Entities: Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abdul Hamid · Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) · Penang International Halal Expo 2026 (PIHEX 2026) · Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim · Penang Halal International (PHI)
Overview
In July 2026 the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation used the 22nd Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) to push the International Sourcing Programme, seeking RM2 billion in export sales and highlighting a total of RM20.62 billion generated since the programme began. The event also introduced the Women in Export (WiEX) platform to support women‑led halal businesses through networking, capacity‑building and market‑access activities, with officials citing a target of RM80 billion in halal exports by 2030.
A week later the Penang International Halal Expo (PIHEX) opened in Seberang Perai, positioning Penang as a regional hub for the halal industry. Organisers emphasized promotion of Malaysian halal products, growth of Bumiputera entrepreneurs, expanded certification and foreign investment. The expo also featured a partnership with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, providing a whole‑of‑government service corridor and digital inclusion measures under the Program Madani Kita, further supporting the sector’s development.
Together, the two events illustrate a coordinated push in 2026 to expand Malaysia’s halal export capacity, empower specific entrepreneur groups, and strengthen regional hubs through government‑backed services.
