Malaysia haze mitigation via cloud seeding
Overview
The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has implemented cloud seeding operations across Malaysia to mitigate haze and improve air quality caused by unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.
In mid-September, operations were coordinated in the Klang Valley, specifically targeting Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. This initiative utilized Royal Malaysian Air Force assets to deploy salt solutions to stimulate rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon.
By mid-October, the scope of intervention expanded to Johor Bahru. While initial seeding plans focused on northern Peninsular Malaysia, officials launched the Johor operation due to local haze levels. Authorities noted that haze conditions in the region are expected to persist as wind carries smoke from fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
