Malaysia KPDN consumer protection enforcement

Overview

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has conducted various enforcement actions across Malaysia targeting counterfeit and non-compliant goods.

In Penang, authorities disposed of approximately RM3.15 million worth of counterfeit branded items, including clothing, accessories, vehicle parts, and electronic devices, seized during the first nine months of the year. These actions were carried out under several laws, including the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 and the Trademarks Act 2019.

More recently, nationwide inspections conducted in October resulted in the seizure of over RM70,000 worth of squishy toys. These products were confiscated for failing to display the mandatory Safety Standard Compliance Mark (MC).
