Malaysia National Registration Department identity services

Overview

The Malaysian National Registration Department (JPN) has undertaken several initiatives to improve the delivery of identity documentation and registration services.

As of September 2026, the department issued 14,000 MyPR permanent resident identity cards. Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs aims to make these services more efficient, systematic, and secure.

Further updates indicate that JPN has resolved nearly 13,000 cases of late birth registration this year, an average of 1,000 cases per month, to ensure children can access schooling and medical treatment. Additionally, between September 17 and October 20, the department issued 275,785 new-generation MyKad cards. These upgraded cards feature 53 security elements, such as QR codes and holograms, to enhance document security.
