Malaysia public transport extensions
Overview
In late July 2026, Rapid KL announced that the free‑travel period for the newly opened Shah Alam LRT line would be extended to 14 August 2026. The extension covers trains, feeder buses and Park‑N‑Ride facilities, giving commuters additional time to become accustomed to the 37.8 km line that links Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
A few days later, in early August 2026, Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) expanded its Shuttle South rail service to Paloh, adding stops at Kluang, Renggam, Layang‑Layang, Kulai, Kempas Baru and JB Sentral. The new schedule offers ten trips per day with promotional fares and free rides for young children, primary‑school students and persons with disabilities. Both moves are part of Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport strategy to improve regional connectivity, encourage public‑transport use and reduce reliance on private vehicles.
