Malian military counter-terrorism operations

Overview

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have conducted a series of military operations against terrorist groups under Operation Dougoukoloko.

In early August 2026, FAMa reported successful aerial strikes in the Kidal, Tessalit, and Boulkessi sectors. These intelligence-led operations targeted the JNIM/FLA coalition, resulting in the neutralization of terrorist elements and the destruction of weaponry and armed vehicles.

By late August 2026, military activity expanded to the Mopti region and the Dandougou sector near Dioila. In Mopti, strikes targeted gathering points containing terrorist leaders and war materiel. In Dandougou, forces identified a group of at least 200 terrorists attempting to hide in dense vegetation.
