Mallorca llampuga fishing season
Overview
The professional llampuga (dentex) fishing season has commenced in the Balearic Islands, involving 35 vessels based in Mallorca. The campaign, which runs through the end of the year, is subject to a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) to ensure sustainable resource management.
Following the start of the season, markets in areas such as Sóller and Mercat de l'Olivar have reported an abundant supply of large, high-quality specimens. This early abundance has led to more competitive pricing for consumers; large specimens have been recorded between 14.80 and 18 euros per kilo, whereas smaller pieces have been available for as low as 8 euros. This is notably more affordable than previous seasons when prices for large pieces occasionally reached 24 euros per kilo.
