Initially, Florida Atlantic University quarterback Caden Veltkamp was named Star of the Week after leading the Owls to a 38-30 victory over Navy. Veltkamp recorded 386 passing yards and five touchdown passes, tying a school record.

In a subsequent announcement for Week 3, the award expanded its recognition to eight quarterbacks.
