Manta 104th anniversary celebrations

Overview

The city of Manta is marking its 104th anniversary of cantonization with a series of civic, musical, and gastronomic events. Planned festivities include the Festival de la Colada Morada, the Mariana Fest at El Murciélago beach, and the election of Reina de Manta 2026.

Earlier reports indicated that these celebrations would coincide with a mandatory curfew in the Manabí province under Executive Decree 519. The curfew, effective from 00:00 to 05:00 between November 1 and November 10, requires all festivities to conclude before midnight. The anniversary period also includes a local mandatory rest day scheduled for Friday, November 6.

On November 4, the city held a solemn session and a parade to honor its historical identity. These commemorations recognize Manta's evolution from its official cantonization on November 4, 1922, following Executive Decree No. 602, into a major commercial, fishing, and maritime hub. As the primary port in Manabí, the city's economy is driven by tuna processing, commerce, and the export of products like coffee, cacao, and tagua.
