Mar del Plata bus accident recovery

Overview

Following a June 22 accident in Mar del Plata, Argentina, where a line 532 bus lost control and struck pedestrians near a skatepark, 19-year-old Thiago Vera has transitioned through stages of medical recovery.

The incident, which resulted in the death of 18-year-old Guadalupe Merlos and injured several others, left Vera in intensive care for 50 days. By mid-August, Vera had moved to an intermediate care unit to begin motor and muscular rehabilitation.

By late August, after a total of 67 days in the hospital, Vera was discharged to continue his recovery at home. While he has shown neurological and physical improvements, such as increased speech fluency and the ability to practice walking, he still requires at least two major surgeries involving his femur and his head.
