Masterboi beef exports from Northeast Brazil to China

Overview

The Masterboi meatpacking plant in Canhotinho, Pernambuco, has completed its first shipment of beef to China. The 27-ton cargo, consisting of forequarter cuts, was dispatched via the Port of Suape and is expected to arrive at the Port of Shanghai in 2027 to align with Chinese import quotas.

This operation marks the first time a slaughterhouse in Northeast Brazil has been authorized to export beef to the Chinese market. While Brazil has 69 plants enabled for Chinese exports across 12 states, the Canhotinho unit is currently the only facility in the Northeast with this specific authorization.

To support this new trade route, Masterboi is increasing its slaughter capacity from approximately 800 to over 1,000 cattle per day. Company President Nelson Bezerra noted that the authorization allows the firm to improve the value obtained from the entire carcass and integrate Northeastern livestock into global trade.
