Matamoros twin murders and protests

In late July 2026, two 21‑year‑old sisters, Dinorah and Denisse García Cruz, were fatally stabbed in the Control neighborhood of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Their family identified four alleged perpetrators, all U.S. citizens from Texas, and alleged jealousy as the motive. The Tamaulipas State Prosecutor’s Office had not confirmed any arrests at the time.

A few days later, relatives and community members in Matamoros blocked the International Bridge Tratado de Libre Comercio‑Los Indios, demanding that the state prosecutor arrest the four U.S. suspects and that U.S. authorities cooperate to bring them to Mexico. The protest disrupted traffic on the Matamoros‑Reynosa highway, illustrating growing public pressure for swift justice in the twin murders. A simultaneous blockade in Michoacán over a missing 13‑year‑old highlighted broader community concerns about violent crime and disappearances in Mexico.
